Curator: Bogda Sztencel

Realization: „Zamek” Culture Center and WRO Art Center

Exhibition open from 19.03 until 19.04.2009
In the upcoming month WRO Art Center will host an exhibition of photographs by Andrzej Paluchiewicz entitled “My Grotowski”, prepared jointly by WRO and “Zamek” Culture Centre. The exposition consists mainly of large format photo prints and audiovisual installations accompanied by a soundtrack composed by an American artist Timothy Imlay.
An actor in The Laboratory Theatre was also an explorer, and training together would built strong relationships amongst the members of the Team. For ten years Andrzej Paluchiewicz took pictures of Grotowski and actors of the Theatre in different situations – workouts, performances and travels. A record of that period was created. Paluchiewicz documents exertion, creation, joy and community. His photography immortalized that Laboratory Theatre – the atmosphere of avant-garde in the art born at the turn of the 60’s and 70’s.

Andrzej Paluchiewicz

In 1966 he was one of the few to successfully pass an exam to become a student of the Actor’s Institute – Laboratory Theatre. Starting from this year he played in Acropolis and took part in preparations to Samuel Zborowski and Apocalipsis cum Figuris. For all this time together with other members of the team he worked with Jerzy Grotowski over his book “Towards Poor Theatre”. He participated in Theatre’s tour in Poland and abroad (among others in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Italy, France, United Kingdom, USA, Mexico and Australia).
Starting from 1973 he took part in Teatre’s “paratheatre” activities in Brzezinka near Wroclaw, as well as in France, Italy, USA and Australia.

During the period when he was involved in IATL he took pictures of Grotowski and his Team. He is an author of a unique collection of photos documenting that period. Most of them have never been published yet.
In 1977 Paluchiewicz left for Sweden where he lives till today. He is an author of photo reports for press, book covers and advertisement photos. Exhibitions of his photographs are shown in Poland, Sweden and USA.
