Following up the activities initiated by Brigitta Bödenauer in 2017 during her stay in Wroclaw within the residency program for artists based in Austria, we’d like to invite you to her new audiovisual performance We won’t close our umbrellas, in which she’ll use electronically processed field recordings, collected, among others, during the demonstrations in defense of women’s rights that were taking place in Wroclaw during her residency. The performance, to which the artist invites residents of Wroclaw, takes place in the installation space built of backlit and shading skeletons of umbrellas that create a kind of an organo-technical structure. The use of reflectors with lenses and moving light sources, operated viewers—co-creators of the performance, makes the scaled and enlarged shadows of the metal structure give the impression of an unsettling, living organism.
The event at WRO Art Center is preceded by collecting of old umbrellas. Help us build the installation! Instead of throwing an old umbrella away, bring it to WRO til Oct 24.
The documentation of the performance will be presented in form of an installation based on the RFID system through the end of the year.
