Info
The exhibition ACiD – Analogue, Digital and Sonic at the WRO Art Center unrolls the theme of archives, started several years ago with the project Active Art Archive – developed through exhibitions and multi-media publications. Recently, it was continued during WRO’s presentation at the exhibition in the Polish pavilion during the 15th Gwangju Biennale, as well as at the Polish Pavilion exhibition at the WRO Art Center.
This time, we are pointing out video works from different eras: from early electronics in analogue recording to later digital forms, that provide analogue, digital and audio stimulation for the viewer, often becoming an aesthetic challenge. The programme includes works selected from previous editions of the WRO Biennale. Many of the works are rarities digitised in our studio from early VHS and U-matic tapes.
The exhibition focuses on video as a simultaneously important visual and audio form in the history of media art. Feedback, interferences and glitches build and shatter narratives, trigger visual and auditory experiences, afterimages draw mandalas on the retina. They also present a cross-section of technologies and tools used in the image-making process. The works presented invert and transcend conventional meanings and functions.
TW: The exhibition delivers flashing images and loud sounds.
