Suspended Binary refers to a condition in which binary systems remain structurally present but are no longer reliable as a source of truth. The work unfolds as a continuous sound composition, operating in a suspended state where actions do not guarantee outcomes and where certainty is replaced by assumption.
Bogumił Misala is a composer and sound designer working at the intersection of sound, space, and image. He creates sound-based installations and original scores for performances, theatre productions, films, and interactive environments. He holds a degree in Philosophy with a focus on New Media Aesthetics and is a founding member of the interdisciplinary art collective IP Group (identityproblemgroup.com).
Together with IP Group, he runs IP Studio in Wrocław – an experimental space dedicated to exploring immersion and the dynamic relationships between sound, spatial design, and moving image. His artistic practice focuses on the immersive qualities of sound and the expansion of genre boundaries, as exemplified by his ongoing project, Ambient Room.
He is the author and co-author of numerous generative and interactive installations presented in Poland and internationally, including Ars Electronica Festival, Gwangju Biennale, Pixxelpoint Festival, World EXPO Osaka, Kansai, Media Art Biennale WRO, New Horizons International Film Festival, Punto y Raya Festival, Vienna Design Week, PatchLab Festival, Pochen Biennale, Musao, Ruhr Triennale, and Onassis Stegi.
He also creates sonic arrangements and contemporary experimental computer music for performances, theatre, animations, films, and multimedia installations. As a theatre composer, he has collaborated extensively with Krystian Lupa, Łukasz Twarkowski and Radosław Stępień. He lives and works in Wrocław, Poland.
