Info
There are two founding dates in the history of WRO. 1989, when the first WRO festival took place in December, showcasing the movement of the then-emerging and still widely unknown new media art.
And 2008, when on February 29 the newly established WRO Art Center opened its first exhibition, the Interactive Playground, a revolutionary redefinition of the concept of art aimed at younger audiences that later transferred many times to Polish and European galleries from Warsaw to Edinburgh, Kyiv and Mumbai. In this opening year of our permanent exhibition activities, another exhibition by video art pioneer Nam June Paik went on the list of world recommendations.
We started as a small group of activists and have remained so. WRO is still an independent art venue, only there are more of us, and media art is increasingly forming the mainstream of contemporary art. Every four years, in a leap year, there is that extra day at the end of February when we celebrate the birthday of the opening of the permanent gallery. It is the fourth time in these dozen years that we have had the opportunity of recaps and new approaches together with artists and viewers.
