Workshop led by Andrey Ustinov who‘s performative work Film Noir was presented at the 2017 WRO Biennale focuses on physical and psychological experiences of walking, subjective perception of city spaces and digital mapping.

The main topics that will be covered are: the postmodern city as a space for deception, disappointment, danger, failure, being lost and frustrated; the city as a projection plane for dystopian imaginings.

The workshop will consist of theoretical and practical components. Andrey Ustinov will introduce a web application that he had developed in cooperation with Yuri Popov, web designer. This app will be used for the performance which is a part of the workshop. The outcome of the workshop will be the creation of a multimedia online map based on the web application.

 

Participants: people over 16. No particular skills are required, just the will to move and act within the city space. It would be great if everyone had a smartphone, iPad or laptop with a mobile internet and a long-lived battery

PROGRAM OF THE WORKSHOP

November 17, 2017 / 5PM–7PM
A brief introduction to the history of walking performance and art mapping, touching on key terms like letterism, situationism and psychogeography, as well as artists and theorists. Presentation about some technical aspects of mapping: equipment, electronic devices – GPS recorders, smartphones, cameras, audio recorders, laser digital distance measuring equipment, classic devices like compasses and software.

November 18, 2017 / from 10AM
Preparation for the performance on day three. Introduction to the web application which enables to schedule appointments directly onto an online map. Participants will be able to test the web application.

November 19, 2017 / all day long
Performance day. Each participant arranges their own appointment with Andrey Ustinov using the web application. Throughout the day, the participants will try to reach their meeting place at the appointed time. Each participant will move on their own and the artist will be moving from appointment to appointment.

November 20, 2017 / 5PM–7PM
Group discussion and displaying the final multimedia map with the documentation (photos, text or voice messages). Participants will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences and give feedback about the performance and the workshop in general.
