Wojtek Doroszuk
Born in 1980, a graduate of Kraków’s Academy of Fine Arts (MFA in 2006 at the Interdisciplinary Studio of Zbigniew Salaj and Grzegorz Sztwiertnia), he also studied at the Sabanci Üniversitesi in Istanbul. A recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, he was also awarded the main prize at the 8th Eugeniusz Geppert Competition in 2007. His works have been presented during numerous group and individual exhibitions in Poland and abroad. Doroszuk lives in Kraków, where he works as an Assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts.
As video artist and photographer, Doroszuk is interested in the theatricality of social and personal behavior, based as he sees it on conventions that he attempts to expose and deconstruct. A major underlying theme in his work is the fear of the Other. He reveals the impossibility of communication, meaningful translation of actions and cultural habits. Those themes were present in his works created in Istanbul, Berlin, among foreign students in Kraków, Polish minority in Switzerland and Polish workers in Norway.
Wojtek Doroszuk’s residency at Location One was supported by CSW Ujazdowski Castle, The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of a scholarship programme Young Poland, the Trust for Mutual Understanding foundation and Polish Cultural Institute in New York.
