Info
Mushrooming is an open-air event inspired by John Cage’s life and creative strategies. Cage was an artist who lived close to nature and its natural inner rhythm, understanding its entropy as one of the main principles of nature and art. This year again, Mushrooming takes place for the second time around the anniversary of Cage’s birth (September 5, 1912) in a baroque country house Czerwony Dworek 8 (Red Manor), in which the h/2 Foundation runs a center for creative work and artistic residences.
Cage’s search and research for mushrooms was identical to the creative process of discovering the inconspicuous noises in the everyday sound layer. The artistic effect resulting from such an attitude and the acceptance of the principle of the accident becomes more the disclosure of existing, hidden orders or non-obvious phenomena rather than the conscious production of a new aesthetic quality.
Mushrooming proposes a space for effortless observation of the ecosystem and a reflection on its contemporary status from the perspective of contemporary artists and through their work. According to the Fluxus idea of cooperation, all participants: organizers, artists, scientists, guests and observers often make their debuts as artists.
In the program there are outdoor meetings, installations in the woods, garden screenings and lectures, concerts and performances, including works the WRO team: an algorithmic performance Cellular Synthesis by Paweł Janicki or an audiovisual performance Boletus Bikini by Piotr Krajewski.
