We’re releasing a video documentation of Brigitta Bödenauer‘s performance We Won’t Close Our Umbrellas in wich the atrist uses electronically processed field recordings, collected, among others, during the demonstrations in defense of women’s rights that were taking place in Wroclaw during her residency at WRO Art Center in 2017.

The performance, to which the artist invites residents of Wroclaw, takes place in the installation space built of backlit and shading skeletons of umbrellas that create a kind of an organo-technical structure. The use of reflectors with lenses and moving light sources, operated viewers—co-creators of the performance, makes the scaled and enlarged shadows of the metal structure give the impression of an unsettling, living organism.

The event at WRO Art Center was preceded by gathering old umbrellas which later helped the artist to build up the installation!
