Info

A selection of seven artworks which reflect beyond the present and retain their relevance across historical moments. They explore the past for the sake of the future, and bring together the worlds from before times and after time.

Shun Owada / unearth / Paleo-Pacific
Combining an interest in deep time and a variety of spiritism, a sonic liberation of souls, Shun Owada’s installation consists of limestone rocks, an acid that dissolves them, and microphones that capture the sound produced in their melting. Over thousands of years of sedimentation, small, dead bodies accumulated to form theses rocks. Now, their souls fly up, dissolved, leaving behind hissing and liquescence.

Anna Dumitriu + Alex May / ArchaeaBot: A Post Singularity and Post Climate Change Life-form
A robotic, machine-learning organism which will survive any catastrophe on the Earth. ArchaeaBot is a machinic organism modelled on the archaeon, one of the oldest creatures which stood at the beginning of creation. The installation merges several temporal perspectives and technologies derived from the mechanisms of evolution and enhancement of (non)human capacities to extend functionality.

Elvin Flamingo + INFERRadosław Deruba + Patryk Chyliński / We – the common body
Symbiosis, co-existence, and collaboration. Amalgamating an array of media and affecting most of our senses, We – the common body attempts to imagine a post-anthropocentric community in which all organisms cooperate with each other over and despite species barriers to achieve synergy.

Nina Tomasi / telline o7 interface »she sells sea shells«
Conveying the behavior of sea shells on the seashore, the installation is powered by an algorithm modeled upon the movement of sea waves. In-built light sensors make the shells respond as the audience comes closer. The technology reveals a naturally produced, yet ostensibly random mechanism.

Tomasz Domański / Horte!
Practices of spiritual self-perfection were once viewed as the cultivation of a garden. What if the garden was forgotten? After all, a garden is a site of enclosure, of an intentionally erected barrier. Tomasz Domański’s performance in which the artist rakes up Styrofoam is a prophetic snapshot of a time after the apocalypse.

Robertina Šebjanič + Gjino Šutić / aqua_forensic
An investigation from the field of the blue humanities, a discipline that studies oceanic life and the ways it is affected by anthropopressure. Šebjanič and Šutic examine the impact of pharmaceuticals, which our societies consume in ever increasing quantities, on the organisms that inhabit the world’s waters. Human-produced postindustrial waste undeniably contributes to the rise of temperature, and the influence of rampant organic chemistry on aquatic habitats ceases to be an inscrutable enigma.

Marco Barotti / CLAMS
The vibrations of Barotti’s plastic clams result from the pollution of water in their surroundings. The submerged sensors collect data which are converted into sounds. Rather than a dogmatic critique of environmental degradation, the post-ecological installation is an attempt to develop a model of co-existence on the ravaged planet.
