VVS Syndrome is a curatorial show of works by artists from around the world on the portrait format as their thematic and formal axis.

This format has invaded our visual world on a massive scale with the occur of vertically oriented displays of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The show has the character of a documentation of the very recent history of the technology. It has managed to settle into our habits of viewing the world. My exhibition brings viewers closer to the atmosphere of this current-past history of digital media, from today’s perspective. This turn in visual culture was, of course, characterized by an online, memetic style, hence the exhibition has a ludic playfulness. With it I refer to the idea of the Wunderkammer, as a kind of chamber of wonders. In addition to works from recent years, I’m also showing documentations related to the history of “new media,” which, in a way, foreshadowed the future vertical reception. I present web pages and various documents and videos describing the time when smartphones with screens as we commonly know them today appeared.
