Info

The speed of light (299 792 458 m/s) marks the dream horizon, which in science-fiction films is overcome thanks to advanced drives colliding antimatter with matter, or exploiting the singularities of black holes. Parsecs, entering superluminality, warp drive, antimatter, points of stars turning into luminous ribbons… Familiar and well-loved icons of the ultimate phase of progress. From the point of view of modern physics – hypothetically metaphysical.

A random internet meme teaches the self-enlightenment truth that if we want to move faster than light, we must be prepared to live in darkness. So during Thursday’s trash-lab we will explore and celebrate the absence of light. In vision-based art, light seems to be the key physical phenomenon to perceive the work. Monitors, beamers or even our own eyes depend on it. That’s why I’m curious to see how artists relate to its absence.

Bring torches, lamps and fluorescent sticks, because it will certainly be dark!
We will search for enlightenment together by delving into THE DARKNESS OF LIGHT.
