Invitation
I am an author of adventure, fantasy and detective stories for children and teenagers, which are often set in fictional worlds. However, in my books such as: “The Secret Society of Cowards”, “The Stranger from the Land of Mniamliks”, “An Elephant Named Button” or “The Adventures of the Blue Parrot”, you can get to know my favorite Kyiv streets and secret places that only me and my friends know about. To be honest, some of them are taught to children in Ukrainian schools 😉
I like meeting my readers very much. That’s why I was so happy to have the opportunity to meet with children at the Interactive Playground at the WRO Art Center. We’ll talk about how ideas for new books come about and try to create a new fantastic, fun and engaging story together! I look forward to seeing you on April 10 at 12:00 at the WRO Art Center, see you there! Let’s meet selected fragments of my books read in Ukrainian and Polish and create illustrations to them together wit our Ukrainian speaking art guides!

Lesya Voronyna
I was born in Kiev, I grew up in a wonderful community near Shevchenko Park. It was then when I fell in love with this part of Kyiv for my entire life. My backyard friends and I used to roam all the nooks and crannies of the huge Moroz building and the surrounding old tenements. I think that our secret hiding places with priceless treasures are still preserved there: colorful glass balls, “golden” coins of unknown origin, dried beetles-horns and small dolls. In that time I started making up and writing down my adventure-fantasy-detective stories, so that I wasn’t the worst student in kindergarten and later in school and university.

For 15 years I worked as editor-in-chief of the popular children’s magazine „Sunflower”, around which the most talented Ukrainian writers, poets and artists gathered. And it was probably the happiest time in my life. Although we dispersed to different magazines, publishers and countries, we are still friends. I have written 26 children’s books, because I believe that children and young people are the best human beings – they believe in miracles and can make friends selflessly and sincerely. I also wrote one book-travelogue for adults, which is called “In Search of Ogorogo”. In Kyiv I hosted my own radio show on Radio Culture. Now I live in Wroclaw. I am passionate about travels, and collecting snails and elephants.
